Monday: Easing In

VR Adventure: Monday was just a chill workout time. Swiping bats in Supernatural. Still, fun thing I found is that I get a good heart rate going on “low intensity” sometimes better than medium intensity, because I focus on power and really smashing the targets.

Up ahead of me though, ready and waiting later in the week, is this guy:

Food: Steamed veggies, naan pizza, whiskey and Golden Grahams cereal. 40 points.

Weight: 199.8

Today’s awesome: Having a sense of touch and feeling things more realistically in VR sounds appealing, but my gosh, this glove is terrifying

For Your Consideration: Enjoy the 2021 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

Tuesday:

VR Adventure: No adventures Tuesday. Poor Jacob was sick.

Food: Goldfish, more naan pizza, veggie chips. 25 points.

Weight: 199.8

Today’s awesome: Never mind rockets to get things into space. What is we just spin things really, really fast?

Wednesday:

VR Adventure: Wednesday barely got a small session in. Jacob’s illness continued :(

Food: CHEAT DAY!

Weight: 198.2

Today’s awesome: While I’m more directly interested in fusion, I’m excited about what TerraPower, a next generation, small and modular fission plant can do. And they’ve selected their site!

I moderate /r/kafka and people often mistake for a subreddit about the programming language. Our users have almost spontaneously developed their own way for dealing with this confusion. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Thursday:

VR Adventure: Made time for a good little boxing session. I also solved a little more of Jurassic World: Aftermath. I am sneaking around raptors. It’s a bit stressful. I’m not a horror game fan, but I persist because the payoff is more time in Jurassic World, which is just fun. Part of me is still a little uncertain about how I should move around. If I’m using my controllers to “walk” in one direction, and I swivel my head, I keep walking in the original direction. Which makes me want to stand looking straight ahead and only use the controller. That mechanic is a bit frustrating.

On the flip side of all of this is the game I finally got around to playing:

It’s a pretty great game so far! I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s in that immersive/casual space that isn’t stressful to play, but still just a joy to look around.

Seeing Vader approaching down the hall from a distance and walking right up to me, that was just mesmerizing. It felt like a real person walking up to me. Also, dang, Vader is tall.

And the mechanics for moving around is that you move the joystick forward and it shows you the area you will jump to and which direction you’ll be facing. Even though it’s teleporting, it feels a lot better to use, and I can turn all around and look everywhere without worrying about taking a step too far out of my play area. Which is small. In fact the game warns me it’s small, but thanks to the moving mechanic, I don’t feel constrained.

And yeah, wielding the lightsaber is way fun, even if I’m duel wielding some in Beat Saber.

Food: FAIL DAY. Yeah, went over. And I have a feeling I’ll be paying for it.

Weight: 197.6

Today’s awesome: How thin could a VR headset get? Pretty darn thin.

Saturday:

VR Adventure: A brief bit of a workout this day.

Food: Another fail day! This one was pretty on purpose. My wife and I went on a mid afternoon movie date after getting a babysitter, and it’s the Alamo Drafthouse. I, umm, ate plenty.

Weight: 197.8

Today’s awesome: Here is a pretty cool project that fits glass greenhouses with solar cells, which also helped save water and increase yields.

Sunday:

VR Adventure: Same as the last few days, quick Supernatural workout and I’m out. Looking forward to putting in the time to enjoy them a little more thoroughly, and workout for a bit longer. Such is the life of busy adults/parents/workers.

Food: Cereal and milk. Veggie chips. Moroccan chickpea-stuffed acorn squash. 34 points.

Weight: 199.6 (Ah, there’s the movie food)

Today’s awesome: An Apple Car in 2025? That seems way too soon, especially with claims that it’ll be self-driving. But hey? Who knows?

Final Thoughts

Well, the average for this week was 198.5! So we’re down a little over a pound from last week. This is nice. I don’t have to have perfect exercise and eating every day. Just make it more the exception than the rule. Slow and steady.

We’ve fought our way through one holiday, Halloween. We’ve got Thanksgiving next. Wish me luck, and thanks so much for reading!
