Monday: Kiddo Called Home Sick
VR Adventure:
Basically all but the last of these is me and my son recovering from sickness, and trying to make the most of Christmas despite the illness. At the very end I recovered. Until then, nothing going on 😞

Yogurt, Big Mac, Coke and chicken breast.
Weight: ?
I missed recording this day. Just, so so much going on.
Today’s Awesome:
This week we’ll go with the theme of SPACE ELEVATORS! Here is a fun little history although I can’t quite say that the Tower of Babel counts as the first attempt at a space elevator.

Here meanwhile, an interesting review of Fountains of Paradise by Arthur C Clarke, the book that brought the idea of the space elevator to the masses. Takes place in a fictional type of Sri Lanka. Huh.
For Your Consideration:
Wednesday: 🤒
Food: 38 Points
McDonald’s breakfast and a recipe for dinner that includes ground beef. Found out I was way undercounting my standard McDonald’s breakfast, so, now I know.

This Japanese company has said they’re aiming to make a space elevator by 2050. However, it’s all pretty conceptual. For instance it requires “an assumed cable tensile strength of 150 GPa” which, umm, doesn’t exist in any material producible in the way the cable would need to be.

Friday: Christmas Eve!
Food: CHEAT DAY 1
It’s Christmas Eve!
Weight: 193.2

If you want to dive more deeply into space elevators, and with a pretty fun read written as a letter to the next generation, check this article out. Mentioned are efforts to make a space elevator that’s already in space, to sort of move things to different orbits and make launches cheaper. And how that Japanese company I mentioned was part of launching a project that studied moving on a cable tether in space.

Saturday: Christmas!
Food: CHEAT DAY 2
Weight: 193.2
Today’s Awesome:
When did Arthur C Clark thing we would have the elevators? In “about 50 years after everyone stops laughing.”

Sunday: Something Fishy with Weight
VR Adventure:
Finally felt good enough to step into VR. It wasn’t for fitness this week, but I’ll count it. I played this fascinating puzzlers. Got about halfway through. Supernatural Victorian England stuff going on.
And I played it with Carrie! She joined me via the iPad, to which I streamed my game. A lesson for those playing with folks in the same way: go very slowly. Otherwise, it’s a nauseating affair for the person watching on the other device. Even then, it’s a wonderful experience, and much more fun to play with another person.
Food: FAIL DAY
So many sweets in the house, and then pizza
Weight: 193.2
Something is off. The scale must be stuck. No way I didn’t gain weight through these last few days (spoiler: I did gain weight).
Today’s Awesome:
At the risk of being a killjoy on space elevators, this still seems like a legit fear.

Outro
Well, I’m down to 193.3, below the 194.5 from last week, but I don’t trust it. Still nice to think that at week 10 I’m about 11 pounds down since I started. Next week though, I’m thinking the piper gets paid.
